Family History

A name that has been synonymous with legendary performance for over 75 years and three generations has been Granatelli making them Automotive Royalty.

J.R. Granatelli is a second-generation open wheel, Indy Car and drag racing professional that proudly carried on the Granatelli legacy and did his best to instill that same competitive spirit into his children.  Jojo Granatelli, his eldest son became the first third-generation racer to make his mark, winning in both open wheel and off-road racing.  Next came Vincenzo Granatelli, who despite his brother and fathers’ guidance and persuasion never caught the car racing bug, rather he explained at just 6 years old he would play football.  He went on to set records that still stand today as Oak Park High Schools’ quarterback, culminating in a division 1 stand out career at Arizona State University as a special team’s master.

Audrianna Granatelli

There is a new sheriff in town at the Granatelli team and she goes by the name of Audrianna Granatelli.  Entering high school this year as a 14-year-old freshman at Oaks Christian, in Westlake, she already has 4 successful seasons under her belt in competitive Open Division club volleyball, where she has consistently been ranked as a top libero.  This 5’ 4” pint-sized player has shown to have gallons of skills that set her apart as one of Ventura County’s and the Marmonte league’s best up and coming Liberos.

A good libero in volleyball plays a critical role in the team’s defense and serve receive. They must possess strong defensive skills, quick reflexes, game awareness, consistency, a superior fitness level and most importantly superior communication.

A Defensive Force

A libero is all about defense, therefore, strong passing and digging abilities are vital. The libero requires a keen eye to read the game well and anticipate where the ball will go. Granatelli, as the team’s chief communicator must join effectively with teammates, calling for the ball and its direction of play. Giving this libero an edge, Granatelli ties into to her game awareness and understanding their team’s opponent’s strategies, constantly anticipating their next movement.

Pictured with teammate #24 Julianna Galstian, Granatelli stretches out to make a crucial “bump” to her counterpart in the win over Vaqueros Volleyball Club of Puerto Rico. Granatelli ended with an astounding 13 confirmed digs setting her apart from the typical player.

Granatelli says, “I do my best to study film or even go to other games so I can see what the Lions are going up against. It gives me a better understanding of our game strategy.”

Perhaps Audrianna’s size and body structure gives her the speed and agility vital for reacting to fast-paced plays and consistently making the correct and quick decisions. It is this crucial consistency, that makes her such a reliable performer in “serve receive” & defense and why this writer believes she is one to watch.
